EMF was born when Chris Connelly of the Velvet Lounge decided it was time to give experimental performance a regular home in Washington DC. Shortly after the idea's conception, Derek Morton stepped in to help organize, book and promote the show series. The first six shows were such a success that the club has made Emergent a regular weekly event.
Future shows will focus on a variety of approaches to creative performance including: avant garde, improv, non-conventional rock, electronica, performance art, sound installation, multi-cultural genres as well as underground video showings. The space is located on the top floor of the bar and has a capacity of approximately 100. Due to limited staffing, the bar requires all audience members to be 21 and over.
