Why we do this....... There is certainly no money in this business. I run ROCKER! Supernova Records to keep myself occupied and out of trouble. To this date none of our releases have yet to break even, and I am quite proud of my achievements. The music sounds damn good and I have met several great people in the process.

Our birth....... If you want a little background read on, other wise skip this paragraph. We started in 1992 with a first release of a set of Indie Rock Trading Cards. Jim Coursey and I came up with the idea on the way to see a big Indie Rock Festival at Chapel Hill. At the time every label was trying to come up with a new and different kind of marketing technique. Tsunami even went as far as releasing their music on 8-Track! So why not cards! For the first set, I designed a series commemorating Go! Compact Disc's first annual Indie Rock Flea Market. With the help of Jeff Sprague and Lesley Boyd, we were able to manufacture several hundred of these cards for sale at the booth I rented. At $5 dollars a pack and we actually got rid of quite a few sets. The manufacture of these cards became the launch of Supernova. The original plan was to hold off until I had a decent job, but at that point in time, I could not see any great careers falling at my feet. So I just dove right in and planned a compilation cd, The Art of Rocketry.

The Current Scene.......After putting out one cd, 2 seven inches, 7 cassettes, including various compilation contributions and about 7 releases due out this summer, I feel certain that Supernova is here to stay. Yes, we are struggling along, but still moving forward. Im making more money than I ever did at my day job which translates into more releases. Although I definitely can say my musical tastes have change through the years, I still feel the compulsion to make recordings available for you folks. At three years, Im glad to have not bailed out.

Want to send a demo.......I love receiving demos and I usually give back good criticism but remember this is not my job. The label is a hobby for me, my friends, and music that I like. Im not about MTV, record contracts, and making it big. If these are the types of things you are looking for, consider ...GETTING A MUSIC INDUSTRY LAWYER....seriously.

But if I like what you are doing, I certainly will do by best to help your band get shows in the DC area, and who knows...maybe I'll be spend alot of cash financing your record. You got it?

Love,
Derek Morton
